Digitizing production management with BriaSOFT: a real case in the metalworking industry

Managing production using manual and paper-based tools can become an obstacle to business growth. This was the case for the Selva Antonio S.r.l., a subcontracting precision machining company that decided to rely on BriaSOFT, a software house with solid experience in the metalworking sector.
Sara Selva, CEO of Selva Antonio, shares the company’s experience firsthand.
What challenges did you face before digitization?
"Our main goal was to reduce all manual operations related to production and warehouse control, which were still largely paper-based. The situation had become unmanageable: revenue and the production department kept growing, but we were held back by the lack of precise and regularly updated data. All data had to be manually entered into the management system, and by the end of the process, they were often full of errors.”
What solution did you adopt?
"We implemented Crono by BriaSOFT in almost all areas of the company, keeping only the administrative part linked to the old management system. Everything else has been fully digitized or is in the final stages of completion.
We purchased modules designed and customized to our needs, trying to maintain existing procedures as much as possible. The goal was to avoid disrupting employees' habits while optimizing workflows.
Now, every area of the company has a dedicated module:
• the production office
• the production department itself
• planning
• the warehouse for raw materials, semi-finished, and finished products
• quotations and purchasing
The implementation took about two years. We started with customer order management and, step by step, followed the production cycle, gradually adding the necessary modules to cover all company activities."
What tangible benefits have you achieved?
"The workforce, which I initially feared might resist the change, welcomed the new solution positively. BriaSOFT adapted the software to our specific needs, allowing employees to continue working in a familiar way but with significant advantages.
Each production department has been equipped with tablets and PCs, making operators more autonomous. The interfaces are customized based on roles: each employee sees only the necessary information, reducing confusion and ensuring quick access to relevant data.
Data entry is now guided step by step with clear instructions, minimizing human errors. This has also helped standardize areas that were previously managed in an unstructured way due to paper documentation.
One of the departments that has benefited the most is the office handling communication between customers and production. Now, when a new request comes in, we can provide immediate answers without having to call operators, the warehouse, or quality control. We can track every item in real time—from the production date to the number of packaged pieces, any rejected parts, and the material certificates.
The shipping warehouse has also made a huge leap forward. Previously, our procedures were no longer keeping up with current needs. Today, thanks to digitalization, the system automatically provides all the necessary information for packaging, the exact number of produced parts, and courier specifications, including gross and net weights and packing lists."
What are your next steps and your advice for other companies?
"Our next step will be to optimize the quality control department and integrate more advanced automation to further simplify certain processes.
If I had to give advice to other metalworking companies considering a similar solution, I’d say not to adapt your business to off-the-shelf software, even if it may seem like a faster approach at first. It’s crucial to work with a provider that develops a tailored solution, just as BriaSOFT did for us.
This way, employees have time to get used to the new system without major disruptions. Even the most skeptical team members will embrace the change—especially once they realize the real benefits it brings."
