LaserSpeed Pro provides wire and cable makers with significant return on value

The BETA LaserMike LaserSpeed® Pro gauge from NDC Technologies enables wire and cable manufacturers to accurately measure the length and speed of their products for better process control. This high-performance non-contact laser gauge is used across numerous wire and cable production processes and includes powerful connectivity, communication and control capabilities consistent with Industry 4.0. This allows the LaserSpeed Pro gauge to be easily integrated into production networks for real-time data exchanges and tight processing efficiencies to drive product quality. 

LaserSpeed Pro projects a unique pattern on the surface of the wire or cable which is then reflected back to the unit and translated into speed. Pulses are generated at a rate proportional to the speed. The pulse output is sent to a control system, such as a PLC, to indicate length and trigger process actions. Applications include:

• continuous length measurements;
• speed control for wire drawing;
• cut-to-length control;
• differential speed regulation;
• product positioning;
• marketing/printing on products;
• and more. 

An ultra-fast processing engine enables length and speed measurements to be made up to 100,000 times per second and pulses can be driven up to 5 MHz to control process actions. Measurements are performed with better than +/-0.03% accuracy and +/-0.02% repeatability (the highest in the industry) for the depth of field up to 100 mm and full velocity range. LaserSpeed Pro tracks the most minute product movements back-and-forth, even at rapid acceleration/deceleration rates – and can measure down to true zero speed. In addition, this gauge eliminates the need for continual checks of accuracy and constant tweaking of the control system. It is an ideal replacement for error-prone contact tachometers. No moving parts and permanent calibration mean no maintenance and no downtime. The result is significant cost savings by delivering precise and repeatable measurements day-in and day-out, from production run to production – reducing product waste and give-away. 

LaserSpeed Pro provides ModBus TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet IO and Profibus DP protocols.
