70 years of success with Krenn's special steel cutting tools
70 Years of KRENN – this means 70 years of developing steel cutting expertise! The mid-sized, family-owned operation, located in Bavaria, Germany boasts Europe’s most diverse steel cutter programme. The company’s history began in 1947, when Albert Krenn Senior founded his factory, where he and his wife Zenta made technical springs by hand. The manufacture of springs was quickly expanded and the company invested in modern production equipment. To cut the hard spring steel, he looked for the right tool, and eventually developed the patented KRENN steel cutter with the three-edged, reversible blade.
Today’s KRENN GmbH & Co. KG has positioned itself as a versatile provider of steel cutting tools on the international market. KRENN offers high-quality specialty cutting tools to cut steel wire, steel rods, reinforcement steel mesh, wire cables, steel strapping, chains and cables. Different types of cutters are available: manual, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic or battery-operated. The company provides products to the steel industry, wire production and processing industries, the precast concrete sector, and also to retailers of construction equipment and tools. The company exports 50 percent of its products.
In 1975, Albert Krenn Junior took over his parents’ business. To consolidate the efforts of the company, he cut back on spring production and focused on manufacturing manual bolt and mesh cutters. In the 1980s, he further expanded the product programme and tailored it to the construction industry and the wire production and processing industries, by adding pneumatic and electro-hydraulic steel cutters, and in the early 1990s, he added battery-driven devices. KRENN was the first company in Europe to provide a high-performance, battery-driven steel cutter.
To gain a stronger market foothold, KRENN focused more on providing tailored solutions to meet customer requirements. Industry-specific cutting problems are now solved on-site and the company produces specially developed cutting tools. For example, the company produces steel cutters to cut through the wire or metal straps used for packaging; their longer cutting head meets the strict safety requirements of the wire production and processing industry.
A new, forward-looking strategic direction was set in 2013 when Markus Krenn joined the company. As a representative of the “third generation”, he carries on the family tradition, managing the organization together with his father, Albert Krenn.
2015 marked an important step in the company’s history, when it took over Kamax Tools & Equipment GmbH & Co. KG’s “Steel Cutting and Testing Presses” division. This allowed them to further expand their product portfolio to include KAMAX hydraulic steel cutting and straightening equipment, as well as hydraulic material testing presses.
“We look forward to the future, as we are well positioned and confident that we can satisfy the challenging cutting requirements of our customers both here and abroad, thanks to our technical know-how, our close ties with our customers and our creative solutions”, states managing director Albert Krenn. The management duo works closely with its employees to best serve their customers and to develop new business areas. KRENN’s open lines of communication have contributed to the company’s 70-year success as an international provider of highly specialised cutting tools for the wire and construction industry.
