Marta Portale 3AX by GEM, top of the line for resistance welding

The welding process requires state-of-the-art and reliable machinery. For this reason, GEM Srl has never spared itself in designing high-performance machines for flawless welding.

The Italy-based company's newest achievement is Marta System Portale 3AX, a resistance welding machine for welding round rebars into different types of mesh. The machinery consists of an integrated spot-welding system with a high degree of flexibility, with 3 axes and a servo-controlled two-station positioning table with a rapid change of containment equipment.

Marta Portale 3AX is equipped with two interpolated Cartesian axes, on which the rebar loader and welding gantry are mounted. The axes are made using the electro-welded machine tool base, with the welding part consisting of several elements:

- a gantry structure with 1,000-mm span;
- a 1,000 Hz medium-frequency generator with a 1,200-amp 400V/50Hz three-phase power supply;
- 170 Kva 50% DC power transformers;
- double-stage aluminum welding cylinders with barrels for operation with dry air up to 8 bar;
- blade electrode holders on cylinders sized accordingly;
- adjustable counter-electrode bar with appropriately sized blade electrode holders across the width.

The machine is equipped with a manual frame assembly function, while transverse round bar loading and welding are done fully automatically by the robot through CNC programming. Thanks to the 4.0 integration, the operator can easily unload the assembled workpiece.
