In the wire and cable industry, ceramics has become the material of choice and convenience. Almost all facets of wire and cable manufacture have benefited by the use of ceramics in the production processes. Product quality and output have been maximized with minimum downtime; lower wear problems and surface defects.

Ceramic Guide Pulleys: In the wire drawing process, wire is often guided by ceramic pulleys, which withstand the abrasion caused by the wire passing on them. AL95 ceramics has been specially developed for such applications. The extreme hardness, lightweight (nearly 50% of steel), and high corrosion resistance makes AL95 the ideal material for wire guide pulleys. AL95 guide pulleys are heat resistant and perform well even at elevated temperatures. The pulleys are given a special V-grove shape with an angle of 60 deg and a radius of 1.6 mm to prevent the wire from slipping out of the
pulleys. The ceramic rings are polished to a Ra Value of 0.2 - 0.5 to ensure smooth movement of the wire. Another benefit of ceramics is the effective reduced mechanical system inertial response because of the relatively high stiffness-to-weight ratio.

Pulley flanges, CNC Machined and available in fully anodized Aluminum, coated with anti corrosion layers, are not affected by most wire drawing solutions and do not need frequent maintenance vis-à-vis Phenolic materials. The flanges are held together by means of SS screws. High performance bearings are used and are pressed fitted into the metal flanges. The metal part is duly anodized to prevent rusting. Solid ceramic rings eliminate the problems of chipping around the groove radius that occurs in coated pulleys. The pulleys are also dynamically balanced at 2500 rpm.

With many available designs and configurations, such as bolt together, solid ceramic, or coated aluminum. CEMANCO can satisfy the unique requirements of the wire and cable industry. CEMANCO’s AL95 guide pulleys are long lasting, will help improve wire surface quality and at the same time reduce maintenance and production costs.
