The making of Catenificio Moro - How link chains are made
Catenificio Moro was established in the ‘50s, by the hand of Luigi Moro and his sons Giuseppe and Daniele. From a small business to a leading company, Catenificio Moro is now a specialist in the production of link chains. In its almost 70 years of activity, the passion for the production of chains has never faded: high quality, precision, and competitive prices are the focal points of this Italy-based company.
Today Catenificio Moro will lead Expometals.net readers on a tour behind the scenes, to discover the secrets that have made this brand renowned both in Italy and abroad.
Our journey begins with an accurate selection of the suppliers, who are for the most part long-dated partners located in the surrounding areas. This allows the company to reduce production times and guarantee flexibility.
All the raw materials employed by Catenificio Moro are top-notch; they are chosen according to specific reliability criteria, to the type of chain, and to the required work and breaking loads. All raw materials must also be suited to surface and heat treatments, such as case-hardening or hardening and tempering.
Once the right materials have been selected it’s time to start the cold forming process. In this crucial step, the wire is processed according to the specific needs of the customer and prepared for the next step, that is resistance butt-welding. Next, the chains are subjected to calibration and other quality tests. The chains must undergo numerous tests throughout the entire production process, starting from a check of input materials up to certification processes and tensile tests in specialized laboratories.
At this point, Moro’s products are ready for surface and heat treatments, such as case-hardening, hardening and tempering, electrolytic galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing and painting. Performed on request, these treatments allow to further improve the chain’s characteristics and better match market demands.
As for logistics, the products are then shipped via couriers or, alternatively, customers can take care of the freight on their own: Catenificio Moro exports mainly to Europe and, thanks to its loyal customers, is also able to indirectly reach non-EU countries.
