FAR at Advanced Factories 4.0 in Barcelona: all about automation and robotics

FAR at Advanced Factories 4.0 in Barcelona: all about automation and robotics

FAR, an Italy-based manufacturer of automation and fastening technologies - such as riveting systems, rivets, and threaded inserts - participated in the Advanced Factories 4.0 fair held in Barcelona from April 8 to 10.

This event focused on the 4.0 transformation of industrial solutions, showcasing automation and robotic technologies. We had the pleasure of having a chat with Massimo Generali (FAR’s owner and managing director) and Pierluigi Cassani (head of international sales) about the company’s strategic choices, their experience at the fair, and the emerging field of automation and robotics.

What feedback did FAR receive at the Advanced Factories 4.0 fair in Barcelona?

FAR initiated a new partnership with AENSA, a Barcelona-based company specializing in automated systems and advanced technologies for the industry. Both companies participated jointly in the event, generating numerous new contacts with customers in Spain interested in FAR's extensive range of automation technologies for both rivets and threaded inserts. Our company established promising relationships with national and international experts in automated systems, including some of the key players in the robotics sector. Negotiations for automated systems' sale are currently underway.

Will FAR participate in similar fairs in the future?

The experience was positive. It is an emerging sector we are exploring with growing interest. Professionals in the robotics and mechatronics fields are recommending the most relevant fairs for FAR to attend. Their insights help us pinpoint the events where FAR's presence would be most beneficial, ensuring strategic networking opportunities and exposure to relevant industry trends.

Does your company have the expertise to provide automated fastening systems for 4.0 companies?

Massimo Generali, FAR owner and sole director, highlights that in the past 4/5 years, our company has designed and marketed numerous customized automatic systems, some integrated with robots and others semi-automatic. FAR has reached a new level of competence and currently collaborates with cutting-edge consulting and design firms in mechanical and electronic technologies. These partnerships enable FAR to offer innovative solutions for industrial production in highly selective sectors such as automotive and consumer electronics.

Has this new category of fastening technologies increased FAR's value?

Absolutely. Over the decades, our company has established itself as a benchmark in the design, production, and supply of high-quality fastening technologies: blind rivets, threaded inserts, professional portable tools, and assembly line tools. Today FAR regularly interacts with global companies seeking support in managing high production volumes with high productivity, flexibility, and installation quality control. This confirms the strategic choice to position FAR as a top-class supplier in both technologies and services for the fastening sector. What’s more, by supplying automated systems, FAR opens the door to providing a steady stream of essential consumables like rivets and inserts, suitable for high-speed production processes, which is a significant advantage for FAR.

What’s driving the surge in market interest for automation and robotics?

We’ve noticed a growing interest and awareness regarding process optimization and control of fastening points through validation systems. Also, there is a rising trend toward automating certain production processes, leaving human resources to play a predominant role in supervising production operations and managing variables.

What does FAR offer in terms of technical assistance and training to customers who purchase its technologies?

After the purchase, customers can rely on a team of experts in various fastening technologies. Over the years, FAR has developed personalized training programs to meet customers' specific needs, focusing on practical aspects of applications, including consumables to be installed, tools, and automation in use. The FAR Technical Training Center in Bologna is where technologies are tested, problems are identified, and solutions are found. Customers are encouraged to participate in specific courses on automation management, problem-solving, and technology maintenance. This approach creates a strong relationship between real people, allowing for continuous communication and online support when necessary.

Are there specific requirements for FAR dealers selling automation systems?

Managing automation requires a different approach compared to selling standard tools. It’s pivotal to understand the customer's specific production needs from the initial stages. Each project requires a detailed feasibility study to ensure effective results. This process demands high professionalism, method, and attention to detail. Although, results may not be immediate and unforeseen challenges may arise along the way.
