Custom-designed torsion springs in carbon and stainless steel

n

Based in Florence, Italy, Cecchi is a prestigious spring manufacturer with over 50 years of experience in the design and production of a wide variety of springs, including custom-designed torsion springs made from stainless steel and carbon steel.

Torsion springs are mechanical elements designed to store rotational energy. When a force is applied to the ends, the spring twists around its longitudinal axis, storing energy that is released when the force is removed, allowing the spring to return to its initial position.

Cecchi torsion springs: applications, materials, and technical specifications

The applications of Cecchi's torsion springs range from the lighting sector (clips for recessed spotlights, lighting door closure hooks, etc.) to the fashion sector (accessories and closures), the window and door sector, as well as the nautical, railway, medical sectors, and many others.

Cecchi srl uses wire with diameters ranging from 0.15 mm to 10 mm in stainless steel and carbon steel, with the following grades:

- stainless steel AISI 302 EN 10270-3;
- stainless steel AISI 316 EN 10270-3;
- carbon steel EN 10270-1 Class DH.

Stainless steel wire is an ideal material for producing springs intended for aggressive environments, as it offers high corrosion resistance and is therefore suitable for exposure to chemicals, moist, or high temperatures. However, it is important to note that, despite these properties, stainless steel wire does exhibit a certain degree of magnetic permeability.

On the other hand, carbon steel wire is chosen for springs intended to withstand high static loads or medium-level dynamic stresses. Although it is more susceptible to corrosion in aggressive atmospheres, it offers high resistance to heavy loads, can be formed into springs with complex geometries, and is more cost-effective than stainless steel.

To optimize spring performance, surface treatments can be applied to further enhance their characteristics. The most common treatments include galvanization, Dacromet coating, phosphating, tin plating, and gold plating.
