Mollificio Costanzino’s springs: Italian craftsmanship meets precision engineering
It was 1989 when the young entrepreneur Salvatore Costanzino decided to turn his passion for engineering into a concrete project, founding his own startup, Mollificio Costanzino, in Sicily, Italy. With over 30 years of experience, the company continues to innovate while being deeply rooted in the traditions of Italian craftsmanship.
Today, Mollificio Costanzino remains a family-run business, with Salvatore leading the company alongside his son Giuseppe, the production manager, and daughter Alessia, the quality control manager. Supported by a team of 15 dedicated employees and a state-of-the-art machinery fleet, the company delivers exceptional quality throughout every stage of the production process.
Tension springs, the flagship of Mollificio Costanzino
Specializing in precision compression, tension, and torsion springs (0.2 – 6.5 mm), as well as custom-shaped components (0.5 – 2.00 mm), Mollificio Costanzino serves a wide range of industries, including hydraulics, automation, electromechanics, medical, and automotive sectors.
However, the flagship products of the company’s offering are its tension springs with eyelets and loops. Manufactured with both technical precision and aesthetic attention, the company produces German, English, custom-designed eyelets, or based on customer samples, even for small batches. This level of customization is possible thanks to a dedicated eyeleting machine capable of processing wire with a diameter from 0.3 to 1.6 mm. Unlike traditional multiformer machines, which tend to produce narrower and more angular loops, this specific machine allows for round and wide eyelets, significantly reducing the risk of breakage and improving the final product's durability.
Another key product line from Mollificio Costanzino includes the compression springs: made with pre-tempered wire, the company offers the option of in-house shot peening process and, upon request, 100% calibration.
Materials selection
To ensure maximum versatility and quality, Mollificio Costanzino employs a wide range of materials for the production of its precision springs. Among these are carbon steel wire, available in different grades (SM, SH, and DH), available in both pre-galvanized and Bezinal versions for enhanced strength and durability. Additionally, the company also processes oil-hardened pre-tempered steel wire (Cr Si) compliant with European standards, which is ideal for applications requiring high strength and stability. For projects requiring corrosion resistance, stainless steel wires of various grades (1.4310, 1.4401, 1.4568) are used. Upon customer request, Mollificio Costanzino can also work with non-ferrous materials such as phosphor bronze and copper.
Sustainability and digitalization
In recent years, Mollificio Costanzino has continued to expand its presence in key sectors such as automotive, industrial automation, electromechanics, and medical. With 20 years of experience and the adoption of the latest CNC technologies, the company is able to offer customized solutions with quick response times and efficient deliveries. This commitment to technological innovation is also closely linked to sustainability: the company has implemented systems that reduce production risks and minimize environmental impact, such as a photovoltaic system, demonstrating a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
At the same time, in response to growing production demands, the facility has been recently expanded. With the addition of 600 m² to the existing 2000 m², spaces have been optimized to accommodate new machines and advanced measuring instruments. These investments have allowed the company to further enhance the precision and efficiency of its operations.
Collaborations and future
Mollificio Costanzino collaborates with other companies in the sector, both in Italy and abroad. These partnerships enable the company to share expertise and resources, driving mutual growth and fostering a culture of innovation. The company continues to explore new development opportunities with the goal of consolidating its market position and facing future challenges with solidity and strategic vision. For example, recent investments in 100% load setting and calibration equipment further underline the company’s focus on quality. This continuous innovation, combined with close collaboration with clients during the production phase, allows Mollificio Costanzino to meet the most specific and complex requests.
