Interview with Matteo Battista of the Giorinastri team: "We are ready to face any challenge"
A manufacturer of "Made-in-Italy" industrial straps and slings for more than 50 years, Giorinastri is a certainty for anyone looking for reliable anchoring and lifting systems. We interviewed the company's production manager, Mr. Matteo Battista, about the performance of his business during the past year.
Let's look back over 2022: how was last year for your company?
2022 has been a good year, no doubt about it, although in the last two months there has been a slowdown in orders. Our products allow us to work in different markets and are our landmark: there have been sectors that have worked well, without any lack of demand, while other sectors are still struggling. With these assumptions, we feel satisfied with our year, so we are getting ready for the next challenges.
What has been the most relevant milestone you have achieved?
Keeping prices unchanged for most of the year despite the increase in all raw materials, pandering to our customers' demands as much as possible.
Have you noticed more demand for some products in particular compared to 2021?
Yes, there have been increased demands for some products: the cost of container freight and the difficulty in sourcing some raw materials have caused customers to turn to the Italian market.
How has the increase in energy costs impacted your business? Have any price increases been applied to your products?
Like all manufacturers, we were particularly affected by the increase in electricity, having 50 looms working several hours a day. We tried to forfeit most of the increases as far as we could. We thank our customers who understood the situation at the time when we applied price rises.
What do you expect from 2023?
2023 will begin with many uncertainties, both in Europe and globally: from the Ukraine-Russia conflict, which seems to find no end and continues to create tensions at the political level, to the Chinese economy, which has experienced some slowdown, inevitably involving other economies as well. The picture that emerges is not rosy. Some experts have already commented on the economic expectations for 2023, and we expect tough days. We are ready to face any challenge, hoping the markets will regain stability, perhaps through the end of the war.
