Henkel’s new wind power project in the USA is in full swing
As part of its strategic agenda, Henkel has been focusing on reducing its environmental footprint and supporting sustainable development in order to become a climate-positive company. Against this backdrop, in 2020 Henkel signed a large-scale Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) for the development of a wind farm in Texas — set to cover 100% of the electricity demand of the company’s operations in the USA.
Henkel is thrilled to see the project in full swing: “At Henkel, we want to make a positive contribution to climate protection and further accelerate our efforts. Based on our strong achievements, we have reaffirmed our commitment to become climate-positive by 2040. The power purchase agreement demonstrates how we can drive tangible progress towards achieving our ambitious targets,” explained Sylvie Nicol, Member of the Henkel Management Board responsible for Human Resources and Sustainability.
This large-scale VPPA in the US market marks a true milestone and significantly strengthens Henkel’s commitment to environmental protection. In addition to generating renewable energy, the wind farm will also provide a significant source of revenue for the local administration, school, and landowners. With an overall energy production of around 600,000 MWh per year, the wind farm is scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2022.
