Wire drawing soaps: how to combine performances with low environmental impact
CONDAT is a well-known name in the field of industrial lubricants. The French company has always been at the forefront of the development of products with reduced environmental impact, combining performances, worker safety, and social issues.
These are not just fine words, but a concrete commitment, since CONDAT launched its first biodegradable lubricants 20 years ago. As far back as 2010, the principles of the ISO 26000:2010 standard have been a guide for CONDAT's decision-making and actions. In 2018, the company took a further step in this direction, by joining the international ECOVADIS platform, which provides an international eco-sustainability rating. For 2020, CONDAT has been awarded Silver level, recognizing its sustainability and CSR policy.
Last year, the lubricant manufacturer also introduced a self-assessment system called Lubriscore®, rating the product properties with an associated number of stars: the more eco-designed a lubricant is, the higher the number of stars it gets.
The Lubriscore® rating is available for a wide range of CONDAT-branded lubricants, from cold heading oils to hydraulic oils, from cooling lubricants to hardening & quenching fluids, from maintenance lubricants to wire drawing soaps.
Wire drawing lubricants with a reduced environmental footprint
The flagship of CONDAT production has always been drawing lubricants. They do also benefit from this environmentally beneficial innovation: the CONDAT wire drawing range now has about 40 products that have been rated as eco-designed through LUBRISCORE®.
Some of the benefits:
- Most of these drawing lubricants are supplied in bulk to limit packaging consumption and reduce waste quantities.
- Elimination of CMR raw materials in formulas, and reduction of hazardous components: e.g. soaps and surface treatments have been developed without Borax and TiO2.
- Maximum adaptability to customer needs, to ensure the optimum reduction of dust, die wear, lubricant consumption.
- Reduced production footprint: each product is manufactured minimizing energy consumption during the production process.
The road is laid out: CONDAT's ambition is to expand the range of eco-designed lubricants and chemicals with 10 new products per year, increasing the share of its eco-designed products turnover by 55%.
