1960 Seravesi's team: a word with Andrea Cocchi, head of external technical support
1960 Seravesi is a globally recognized company specilizing in the design and construction of rolling machines and hydraulic presses for sheet metal forming.
Renowned for their exceptional quality, 1960 Seravesi products are a testament to the expertise of their technical staff, led by professionals like Andrea Cocchi. As both a partner and the head of external technical support, Cocchi has played a pivotal role in the success of 1960 Seravesi. We had the privilege of interviewing him to delve into the profound impact of his expertise on the company's operations.
Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Cocchi. Let's begin by discussing the early stages of your career. Could you share the path that led you to 1960 Seravesi?
From the start of my career, I have been specializing in the assembly, assistance, and testing of sheet metal forming machines. My arrival at 1960 Seravesi was natural, as I was previously employed by Seravesi Tommaso, the father of Paolo Bertolotti Seravesi, the founder of the historic company Sertom, named after his initials, SERavesi TOMmaso.
As a partner and Head of External Technical Support, what are your responsibilities?
I oversee the complete design of our hydraulic and electronic systems and provide technical support to our clients remotely and on-site.
In addition to technical knowledge, what other skills do you consider essential for your work?
Knowledge, practicality, and speed in providing answers and solutions to the issues reported by the clients are of paramount importance. Familiarity with each project from its initial design is also crucial, as it allows me and my team of experts to respond effectively, minimizing machine downtime.
I guess you travel extensively for work to oversee the installation of machines and production lines. What were your latest destinations?
We export 80% of our machines, although, thanks to Industry 4.0 innovations, Italy has also shown positive results in 2021 and 2022. My latest installations have been in North America.
What are the challenges you face and the challenges that lie ahead for the company?
The current challenges certainly include the procurement of seemingly trivial materials such as buttons or electronic boards. The challenge is to sell a superior quality product in a market with a wide range of choices, requiring a creative effort to stand out among competitors.
Speaking of which, from your perspective, what aspects set 1960 Seravesi apart from its competitors?
We prioritize direct relationships between the customer and the company, which we establish from the initial contact for machine design. We have all the necessary expertise to build and install rolling machines and hydraulic presses that meet the customer's specifications, offering a completely customized end product.
Could you share a project that has given you great satisfaction in your career?
With pleasure! One of the early machines I worked on after joining the company was a 1,400-ton push-rolling machine for a long-standing customer in the United States. It remains a memorable project for me.
In over twenty years of experience, what relevant technological changes have you observed in the sheet metal industry?
Sheet metal bending machines have seen relevant changes through the integration of electronics with hydraulics. Technological innovation has also interested materials, as it is now possible to work with smaller diameters while maintaining performance thanks to new alloys.
Looking to the future, what have been the significant investment sectors recently?
We have made considerable investments in the past year, building a new office structure, a new LED lighting system for the production area for low environmental impact, a new dining hall for our employees, and a new 15-ton lifting overhead crane, which, combined with the existing 60-ton crane, can lift up to 75 tons. Our goal is always to grow, both in terms of production capacity and the well-being of our employees. Providing them with a renovated work environment is certainly a good starting point.
1960 Seravesi participates in many sheet metal industry exhibitions. Which upcoming events are you going to attend?
The highlight of the year for us will undoubtedly be the Fabtech trade show, which will take place in Chicago, USA, from September 11 to 14, 2023. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet our experts at booth A3480 in McCormick Place and gain insight into the range of bending machines and sheet metal presses offered by 1960 Seravesi, our design and after-sales support activities. Our sales department is also working on establishing a robust dealer network in various markets of interest.
We thank Andrea Cocchi, head of external technical support, for his time, and we seize this opportunity to invite readers to visit the corporate booth A3480 at Fabtech in Chicago from September 11 to 14, 2023, and explore the product section of 1960 Seravesi for an initial look at the company product range.
