A leap into the future with the FASPAR robot for blade and tooling storage

In the metalworking, automotive, and electronics industries, the precision and efficiency of sheet metal cutting play a crucial role. Companies are seeking innovative solutions to meet increasingly stringent production parameters. In this article, we will explore a fascinating evolution in the field: robots for blade, rubber, and spacer storage.

FASPAR, a company specializing in designing and developing coil processing lines and machines, has developed new robotic systems for the automatic blade warehousing and changing. Specifically, these innovative robots offer numerous advantages, including adaptability to single or multiple cutting lines through proprietary patents and software.

With two available robotic solutions, tower or tunnel, FASPAR robots enable automatic handling of cutting tools ranging from 1 to 100 mm in thickness.

Furthermore, thanks to the laser reading system, customized software, and control camera, the robot verifies cutting parameter compliance and blade traceability through a recognition system associating a QR code to each piece.

The highly customizable software selects the best combination of tools, taking into account the mechanical specifications of the mother coil, thus optimizing the number of tools used and the cutting process.

Moreover, these robots can be integrated with a sophisticated ultrasonic washing machine designed for FASPAR, which plays a crucial role in cleaning and degreasing the tools. This solution proves particularly effective in removing traces of mineral oils, zinc deposits, and calamine dust. After the washing phase, the tools are automatically dried and promptly stored in the warehouse, ready for immediate use.

The blade warehouse, fully designed and developed by FASPAR, is also equipped with an intermediate buffer station to minimize the interfacing between the robot and the slitter. The slitter blade carousel, thanks to the intermediate buffer station, is engaged only for 1-2 minutes, while for the rest of the time, it remains fully available to the slitter itself, minimizing the impact of the robot on the production cycle of the cutting line.

FASPAR has dedicated more than five years to studying and developing the blade handling robots, focusing on continuous improvements in performance through extensive R&D efforts.
As a result of FASPAR's innovative approach, its blade robots have been granted seven approved patents at both the Italian and European levels, specifically related to the magnetic grip of the tools.

It is also worth mentioning the possibility of incorporating an automatic reading station into the blade robots. This station utilizes a dedicated system comprising cameras and customized software for detecting blade wear and chipping. Thanks to this advanced feature, users can define various sharpening categories based on their specific requirements.
