Steel tube finishing lines

FIMI designs, manufactures and installs high-performance plants and machines for coil processing. The group offers steel tube finishing machines for tubes with a range from 19 to 608 mm in diameter, for thicknesses from 0.5 to 20 mm and lengths from 3 to 15 m, for thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 20 mm and lengths from 3 m to 15 m, both in-line and off-line.

These devices are ideal to complete FIMI's production lines of electro welded pipes, but they can also be supplied individually to upgrade existing plants. Let's see how the production range is articulated:

End-facing unit
Designed to perfectly finish or bevel the tube ends, necessary to preserve the seals during the subsequent hydraulic tests. The system can be set-up automatically according to the tube diameter and the machining process to be carried out.

Hydrostatic test unit
The hydrostatic test unit verifies that the pressure seal inside the pipe is kept intact. During the test phase it is ensured that there are no holes in the weld, which is a prerogative of API products. The test is performed by filling the tube with water up to the desired pressure. Once this is done, the system draws up a report and separates the failed tubes from those that passed the test.

Threading Unit
The main purpose of this unit is to rework the ends of the pipe to create internal or external threads as specified by the customer. With precise movements comparable to those of a machine tool, the unit automatically sets itself according to product dimensions.

Non-destructive testing systems
Some products require ultrasonic (UST) or flux leakage inspections on the pipe. These checks are carried out individually and by moving the product from one station to another: FIMI provides tube handling systems and machine integration for these tests.

Packing and handling systems
FIMI supplies bundling systems for the preparation of square, rectangular and hexagonal tube bundles from 12.7 mm to 323 mm with lengths from 3 m to 13 m. They are able to stack square, rectangular, beveled round and hydro-tested tubes directly in line with the tube mill, thus avoiding any kind of downtime. FIMI tube’s packers are completely smart and allow the preparation of square, rectangular and hexagonal bundles. Fimi also supplies handling systems to connect the various stations of the line.
