Interview with Flymca, the Spanish cabling equipment expert

Interview with Flymca, the Spanish cabling equipment expert

We recently had a talk with Mr. Carlos Carrillo, Director of Flymca. The Spanish company has exciting news on the way out, so we are happy to give room to the new projects and investments that Flymca is pursuing.

In what projects are you currently involved?
Our production at the present time focuses on projects for submarine cables both for energy and fiber optic.

Do you consider it a strategic sector at the moment?
Yes, absolutely. Suffice it to say that -according to estimates- submarine cables carry almost 97% of all global Internet, voice, and data traffic. Our production is matching the high market demand.

What kind of machinery do you supply for this sector?
Flymca designs and builds very specialized and fully equipped rigid stranding lines for bobbins 630 and 800 mm for up to 133 wires. Our projects combine technology with reliability, easy operation, and low maintenance. Our lines are set up to produce heavy copper strands with round and rectangular wire shapes, including systems for compaction, water-blocking filling, etc. What makes us stand out most from our competitors is that we’re able to supply complete customized projects.

What are other types of machinery currently in vogue?
First of all, heavy armoring lines for big-size diameter cables (up to 400 mm) prepared for multiple numbers of steel wires with round or flat sections, and bobbins diameters 800 and 1000 mm. Flymca gears up the lines with specialized systems for loading that minimize the stopping time of the machine -compared to standard methods. Besides, the line may include bitumen applicators, multiple PP yarn heads, and heavy-pulling caterpullers. Other types of equipment in high demand right now are our long-size tubular stranding lines.

Can you tell us something more about these solutions?
Our long-size tubular stranding lines include a bull head with motorized control systems for each wire and the cable at the final cradle, achieving exceptional tension control to form high-quality cables.

Have you made any new investments recently?
We recently increased our manufacturing capacity, adding a new plant for assembling heavy and big-size machinery. It is located close to our existing main building in Guarnizo (Cantabria, Spain). The plant is equipped with high-capacity cranes, covering a total area of 2000 sqm.

What trade fairs do you usually attend?
We are involved in the main exhibitions for the field worldwide: Düsseldorf is the main one, but we also participate in Interwire in the U.S., which is held biannually in Atlanta. We used to go to the wire exhibition in Moscow, but with the current situation this trade show will probably be canceled for the next few years. We also usually have a stand at the exhibitions held in Asia (wire China, wire India, and wire Southeast Asia), and we recently attended the wire South America 2022 edition in Brazil.

Existing customers and companies interested in Flymca’s cabling equipment are invited to meet the corporate staff at one of these exhibitions around the world or contact the company through the references on the side.
