OMD on the press - between orders and export

2021 started under the banner of recovery on international markets for the mechanical industry, a leading sector in the economic landscape of Northern Italy. In the following interview released by OMD (Officina Meccanica Domaso) to the daily newspaper La Provincia di Como, Gabriella Kunz, President of OMD, tells us about turnover and employment, and confirms the recent recovery trend.

"Actually, we never stopped working, because our machines are also used for the production of springs for the medical and nursing sectors" - Ms. Kunz states. Even during last year's lockdown, the Italy-based company was able to guarantee online installation and services thanks to 4.0 machines equipped for Internet connection.

In addition, most of the company's customers adopt product diversification strategies so that declining demand in some areas is always offset by increased orders in other fields (such as agricultural, DIY, and nursing-medical, precisely).
"In 2020 many companies whose 80% turnover comes from the automotive sector had a production drop of 30%, but the many orders received starting from the beginning of this year seem to indicate a recovery also in this field. While it’s true that for the moment some are only prospects, at the same time, other companies are investing in new machines; this naturally reflects very positively on our business" - continues Gabriella Kunz.
