Bossi to introduce 4.0 brushing machine with opposite units for coil-to-coil sheet metal processing

Bossi to introduce 4.0 brushing machine with opposite units for coil-to-coil sheet metal processing

Processing sheet metal coils entails preparing the metal surface for subsequent production phases. In certain cases, it is necessary to have a machine capable of operating on both sides of the material.

Bossi SRL, a leader in the metal finishing sector for over 40 years, has recently designed and built a brushing machine with upper and lower units capable of working on both sides of the coil to achieve a surface with specific roughness and uniformity.

How does the machine operate? The coil is unwound and fed into the machine; at this point, the brushing operation is performed by two brushing units simultaneously, one on the upper side and the other on the lower side.  The coil is then rewound, ready for subsequent processing phases (usually bonding with another metal to obtain a composite product).

The brushing machine is 3.5 meters high due to obvious construction requirements as it needs to accommodate two abrasive belts, each spanning 2500 mm. To make it ergonomic and practical in use, Bossi SRL has requested the customer who commissioned the system to install it in a 500 mm deep pit.

Let's explore the technical features of this new unit together:

- the abrasive belt is 370 mm wide (as per customer's production needs), with a length of 2500 mm. Optionally, standard width belts of 100, 150, 200, 300, 400 mm, and lengths of 2500 and 3000 mm can be requested;

- the unwinder is located at the entrance on the left side of the grinder, while the rewinder is on the right side, at the exit of the processed material;

- two motorized pressure groups advance the sheet metal during the initial coil feeding;

- electronic control via Siemens S7-1200 or 1500 PLC, in line with Industry 4.0 requirements;

- an 8-cartridge suction filter with spark trap for abrasive recovery, a significant feature when working with noble metals.

The system can be designed to operate in two different modes, dry and wet. Dry processing is typically used on metals like copper, silver alloys, and aluminum alloys, while wet processing is preferable on very hard-treated steels in the presence of scale. In this case, the required surface is purely aesthetic and can be achieved with special abrasive belts and high powers to exert significant working pressures.

The brushing machine can also be equipped with multiple opposing units (e.g., 1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.). For more information on possible configurations, please contact the Bossi SRL team using the provided contact details.
