Olimpia 80: new in-line orbital fiber-laser flying cutting technology for stainless steel tubes

Olimpia 80, a new entry on expometals.net, is an expert in the design and manufacturing of plants and equipment for the production of welded tubes. The company has made the quality of its products and flexibility toward its buyers' needs the key to its success.

In line with these principles, Olimpia 80 has recently developed a new flying cutting plant with fiber laser technology (without burrs). The machine design was inspired by a prototype supplied to the largest stainless tube manufacturer in Italy. After testing the model for more than a year with successful results, the customer ordered three more machines. The first one is already operational, while the other two will be ready in the coming months.

Here are some of the relevant technical features:

- height adjustment of the carriage using four screw-jacks controlled by a hydraulic motor and position locking through four hydraulic clamping sleeves;
- rotation of the main assembly is driven by a dual brushless motor and zero-backlash gearbox;
- fiber optic laser source for cutting round tubes and shaped tubes up to maximum wall thickness;
- head with motorized focal adjustment;
- computerized spatter collection control system for both round and shaped tubes;
- front and rear vertical hydraulic vices;
- safety cabin in compliance with CE standards.

The system offers many advantages, including the total elimination of traditional blades, hence problems related to consumption, vibration, misalignment, lubrication, burrs, and maintenance. Cutting times are, in fact, further reduced when compared to standard 2-blade orbital cutting models.

It means that for a tube with an outer diameter of 168x1 mm the cutting time is 5 sec, while for a tube with an outer diameter of 168x6 mm the cutting time is 28 sec.
