GF-ELTI walking hearth furnaces are plants dedicated to the reheating of semi-finished steel products up to a temperature suitable for the subsequent rolling process (1,100 ÷ 1,250 °C).

These are continuous conveyor furnaces characterized by full hearth, with regenerative burners placed on top of the charge. Based on the plant layout, the furnace can be equipped with a front or side load and unload system, while the semi-finished products in the furnace advance at a distance from each other according to the "pilgrim step" technique.

Thanks to the walking hearth system, moved by means of hydraulic or electro-mechanical servocontrols, this type of plant allows the reheating of the charge on the way on three sides, ensuring better temperature uniformity, but it requires important foundation works for the installation of the handling kinematic mechanism. The emptying of the furnace for maintenance activities can be carried out automatically.
