Melting Equipment for non-ferrous metals

n

The art of melting non-ferrous metals is in the DNA of GMS. In fact, the company was born from the legacy of the historical firm Calamari and is now a well-known leader in this field, with several hundred furnaces in operation worldwide.
The automation system exploits the unique proprietary software “Melting Process”, designed to perform a complete check of the melting process, while also obtaining a considerable energy saving.

In combination with the furnaces, GMS/ENGITEC supplies a wide range of accessories and complementary items such as the closed-loop water cooling plant, the exhaust fume suction system, the automatic weighing units and others.
Here forth there is a short selection of the broad range of furnaces designed and manufactured by GMS/ENGITEC.

a) Coreless Medium Frequency Induction Furnaces
- Crucible capacity from 100kg up to 35t (referred to Copper).
- Installed power from 75kW up to 15MW.
- Single crucible body or multi-bodies powered by single converter unit (Bi-Work solution).
- The converter/s are powered by thyristors or by IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor).

b) Channel Mains Frequency Induction Furnaces
Channel-type furnaces are used in several processes as melting and holding, pouring and pressure pouring, in the continuous casting plants.

This kind of furnaces is mainly composed of a basin with a refractory lined shell and of one or two channel inductors. Inductors are either “mono-loop” or “double-loop”, depending on the installed power.
- Capacity up to 50t (referred to Copper Alloys).
- Installed power up to 2,500kW.

c) Automatic Pouring Furnaces
For the automatic pouring of Grey Iron, Ductile Iron as well as Steel and Copper Alloys into different types of molding lines. Pouring of molten metal is operated by pressure or by gravity according to the process requirements.
Autopour furnaces are made either as medium frequency Coreless type or basin type with channel-type inductor at mains frequency.
The furnaces are fed with IGBT converters.
- Capacity from 2t to 12t (referred to Copper Alloys).
- Installed power from 150kW to 750kW.
