wire & Tube 2020: but can we actually enter Germany?
How travel restrictions will impact the possibility to attend the event
International trade fairs such as wire & Tube Düsseldorf provide companies with the chance to open up to the international markets and establish long-lasting relationships with distant partners. They act as a huge nexus connecting people, industries, and information from all over the world under a single roof, even if just for a few days.
However, travel restrictions implemented following the pandemic outbreak pose now several questions regarding travel requirements, such as the need for an entry visa, COVID-19 test, and/or quarantine upon arrival in Germany (and most importantly, regarding who can enter the country in the first place).
Let’s start by saying that it is generally possible for trade fair participants from abroad to enter Germany. As we can read on AUMA’s website, no travel restrictions apply for travelers from EU member states and from countries on the positive list, that today includes the following countries: Australia, Georgia, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Tunisia, and Uruguay.
Notably missing from the list are both China and India, which have always been two of the most represented countries at wire Düsseldorf. Trade fair participants from these and other risk areas can still enter Germany, as they are considered business travelers with an urgent need to travel, but in this case, a proof of participation in the event is required. Regarding the quarantine and testing obligations, in Germany many quarantine regulations are issued by the individual federal states. Considering the situation is constantly evolving, we invite all trade fair participants to contact the German embassy in their country before setting for departure.
