CERATIZIT and sustainability: let’s lead the future
CERATIZIT is a global player in the carbide industry, now more than ever focusing its attention on research and sustainability.
Sustainability is at the heart of CERATIZIT, which is now studying new solutions to apply this principle to the entire supply chain. The long-term goal is to fight the climate crisis, starting a new era in the carbide industry and becoming the leader in sustainability for the hard metal and cutting tool industry by 2025.
For CERATIZIT, this change of pace toward sustainability has to involve every level of the entire value chain. The company’s strategy doesn’t only cover internal processes and resources, but also sets new standards for their communication with customers– in terms of social and governance criteria, environmental friendliness, resource efficiency and social issues.
Reaching net-zero emissions
CERATIZIT’s ambitious goal is to minimize its carbon emissions, reach carbon neutrality as early as 2025 and net zero emissions by 2040. For its customers, the advantage of using CERATIZIT manufactured solutions is the possibility to produce climate neutral.
Recycle and reuse
Recycling and restoring are the buzzwords when it comes to talk about the future and sustainability. CERATIZIT is aiming to reduce the mining of virgin raw materials, increasing the proportion of recycled carbide in their manufactures up to 95% by 2030.
The company also invites its customers to take part in this change in order to create and extend the recycling partnership. Besides, CERATIZIT professional regrinding service can give a second life to the tools that, despite their high quality, eventually reach their wear limits. This service also gives the chance to save budget during a new purchase.
Green carbide
Not only services, but also sustainable products: CERATIZIT is launching CT-GS20Y, the first cemented carbide on the market with sustainability at its heart. High quality raw materials, including recycled carbide, low-CO2 emissions, short transport routes during the process chain. The final result: 2.6 kg of CO2 per kg of carbide for a premium carbide grade with maximum performance. How can CERATIZIT produce sustainable carbide? The answer includes many factors: intensive focus on the preparation and processing of secondary raw materials, using sustainably generated energy, plant technology up to date, and efficiency of the individual processes in the value chain.
Sustainable packaging
After manufacturing its products, CERATIZIT ship them, clearly marked, to all its customers. This is going to change to some extent, not in the shape, but in the substance. Plastic packages are the most reliable ones, so it’s hard to find a suitable replacement. What CERATIZIT is aiming is to make plastic more sustainable: made from 100% recycled plastic, packaging must be extremely solid but at the same time as small and light as possible, as well as stackable and reusable.
