Hyperion expands Precision Solutions division with strategic acquisitions

Precision Solutions by Hyperion is a division of Hyperion Materials & Technologies that specializes in high-performance precision components made from hard and superhard materials like tungsten carbide, ceramics, diamond, and cubic boron nitride (CBN).
The division offers a one-stop-shop solution, combining Hyperion’s expertise in materials science with the advanced manufacturing capabilities of its subsidiaries—Aggressive Grinding Service, Crafts Technology, Dura-Metal Products, and GLE Precision.
The company aims to develop its precision finishing capabilities through both organic investments as well as inorganic growth (through targeted acquisitions). Further, the enterprise is working toward expanding its capabilities in both North America, Europe and Asia.
Hyperion has a deliberate and systematic strategy to acquire businesses that are great at what they do, and then supplement them with a larger set of capabilities and investments to make them grow faster and on a bigger scale.
The three recent acquisitions
In accordance with this strategy, Precision Solutions by Hyperion has successfully acquired two companies in North America and one in Spain:
- Prism Technologies, a specialist in compaction tooling for powder-based components, has been integrated with Dura-Metal and now operates from a modern facility designed to serve North American customers.
- Damen Carbide, known for its expertise in tooling for metal packaging and slitting/sawing applications, is being consolidated into Crafts Technology’s Chicago facility to ensure streamlined operations and continuity.
- TEMSA Transformaciones y Estudios Metalúrgicos SL, based in Barcelona, along with its partner companies, PLUSDUR SL and METADUR SL, will act as the European hub for Precision Solutions by Hyperion, specializing in high-precision cold forming, powder metallurgy compaction, and drawing equipment.
These latest acquisitions strengthen Hyperion’s global presence, bringing new products and expanded capabilities in the following areas:
- compaction tooling - precision tools for compacting powder into solid green bodies, including tungsten carbide, ceramics, powdered metals components and magnets;
- metal packaging tooling, such as bottle cans, food cans, complementing Hyperion’s leading position in tooling for two-piece beverage cans manufactured through the drawing-while-ironing (DWI) process;
- precision tools for high-precision slitting, sawing and cold forming applications.
Hyperion places significant emphasis on the seamless integration of acquired companies. The people and the “secret-sauce” that made the acquired companies successful will be preserved. Stability for employees and company leadership, as well as continuity for customers are the main goals to achieve in the process.
What this means for customers
Hyperion’s acquisitions and strategy are centered around delivering a superior customer experience. The Precision Solutions division offers a fully integrated production process, eliminating the need for multiple vendors. Customers can expect:
- one-stop-shop efficiency: from material selection to the most precise finishing, Hyperion manages every step of the process. This allows for complex designs, tight tolerances, and high-performance materials.
- enhanced quality and accountability: by retaining full control of the production chain, Hyperion ensures consistent quality, quicker resolutions to issues, and the ability to implement improvements rapidly.
- faster lead times and flexibility: improved capacity and localized manufacturing lead to quicker turnaround times and greater responsiveness to customer needs.
Hyperion’s ongoing investments and acquisitions reflect its vision of becoming a global leader in precision-engineered solutions. With further expansion already planned later down the line, the company is well-positioned to continue meeting the evolving needs of customers worldwide.
