Hyperion Materials & Technologies to introduce 6UDPlus, the new ultrafine cemented carbide
The quality of the carbide grade used in a die can have a significant impact on the performance of the die, and thus on the quality of the wire produced.
Hyperion Materials & Technologies is considered a leader in polycrystalline diamond (PCD), cemented tungsten carbide, and other advanced materials. The US-based company is known for its strong commitment to research and development and for investing in new technologies that can help improve the performance of its customers.
Hyperion recently released a new high-performance carbide grade, named 6UDPlus, specifically designed for drawing steel cord fine wires. The top-of-the-market-quality 6UDPlus combines an ultrafine cemented carbide with special additives that maximize hardness, corrosion and wear resistance without losing toughness. Machines will run longer batches of wire with less die consumption compared to most wet drawing grades.
Hyperion Materials & Technologies provides die blanks made of 6UDPlus in different geometries, such as ISO, JIS, and DIN, or tailor-made to the final user design. The company recommends a bore size below 3 mm for the wet drawing process and to use the same carbide grade for all drawing dies for consistent and superior drawing stability.
