Training die shop technicians across the globe: Mikrotek Centre of Excellence

Nowadays many wire and cable companies have their own in-house tool and die shops, hosting skilled technicians who are in charge of maintaining the die inventory efficiently.

It goes without saying that having a workforce that is always up-to-date and able to solve problems and critical issues quickly and effectively is of utmost importance. 

With these premises, the specialist Mikrotek has thought of creating the MIKROTEK CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE (MCX), intending to provide theoretical and practical training to die shop technicians around the world.

Mikrotek has set up a state-of-the-art workshop and a training center with modern teaching tools near Bangalore, in India. MCX is led by a full-time coordinator supported by two supervisors. Experienced industry experts visit MCX to conduct special classes and present case studies.

Two certified programs are available:

- The FOUNDATION COURSE focuses on the fundamentals of dies. Designed for novice technicians, this course takes place over three weeks. At the end of the program, a certificate is awarded upon passing the final tests. 

- The REFRESHER COURSE is intended for experienced workers who are already engaged in die maintenance activities. It is meant to refresh knowledge, improve their skills, and upgrade them to the latest tools and techniques. At the end of the course, which lasts one week, a certificate is issued following the passing of the final tests. 

The trained die shop technicians will be able to successfully inspect the drawing dies and decide if they need to be re-polished or resized, thus ensuring the drawing machines operate at maximum capacity. A good operator can make all the difference! We all know how important the implementation of optimal drawing dies is to ensure a good wire surface, the least number of wire breaks, longer die life, and less metal dust.
