Chinese steel manufacturers, who are they?
The World Steel Association, the highest international body of the steel industry, recently released a map of the Chinese steel manufacturers, showing at a glance the geographical and economic landscape of the country’s steel industry.
The map is undoubtedly a useful tool, e.g. for Western companies looking for Chinese suppliers or business relationships in the country, as it reveals precious information about production of crude steel, iron ore and coke, divided by company and by province as well as apparent crude steel use since 2001.
You can either purchase it as a high resolution PDF, or you can even order it as hard copy poster.
In recent years China ranked up to become the top world steel-producing country, with 928.3 mt produced only in 2018 - around 50% of the annual world output. The recent “one belt, one road” policy is also contributing to China’s rise up the steel food chain.
In the list of the top international steelmakers released by World Steel Association, there are 6 Chinese companies ranking among the 10 biggest steelworks: China Baowu Group (new name of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation) was the company producing the highest steel tonnage in 2018 in terms of crude steel production (67,42 mt – second after Arcelor Mittal). The other big Chinese names in the ranking are HBIS Group, Shagang Group, Ansteel Group, Jianlong Group, Shougang Group.
