Customs transit procedures between Ukraine and the EU are now easier

On October 1, 2022, the new Convention on Common Transit came into force in Ukraine. According to the new rules, no more visas are required for goods trade with the 35 Member States of the European Union, and goods can cross borders using a single transit document, named transit declaration T1.

The first European country to take advantage of the new regime and implement a facilitated trade in goods with Ukraine was Germany.

Customs offices can observe the new regulations thanks to the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS), which allows the submission of transit declarations by electronic means, providing better management and control of the transit within the European Union compared to paper-based procedures.

For Ukrainian companies, joining the NCTS means becoming more efficient, optimizing costs, and freeing customers and partners from the burden of providing declarations and guarantees. One month after introducing the new regulations, Ukrainian companies have already been able to experience benefits in terms of increased competitiveness of Ukrainian-produced goods in the European market.

The ‘customs visa-free regime’ is just one of the first steps in the path towards Ukraine’s European integration. From 2019, Ukraine followed an intensive work schedule even in wartime, with the final goal being to gain European membership at the end of 2024.    Picture by AndrzejPixabay
