Fasteners and fastening elements: the basics
Fasteners are machine elements which are used to join two or more objects to each other. In most cases this mechanical connection can be loosened again without damaging their components. Most fasteners are made from steel such as cold forming steel. But there are also fasteners made from other metals and even non-metallic materials such as plastics. Metallic fasteners are normally made by a cold forming process and often have to meet complex demands. The variety of fastener designs is practically unlimited.
