Italian steel industry: €63.5 million investment program approved in the Northeast

On August 23, the Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, approved a Development Agreement submitted by Ferriere Nord S.p.A. and Acciaierie di Verona S.p.A., part of the Pittini Group, which specializes in producing hot-rolled long steel products for the construction and mechanical industries.

This €63.5 million investment program, to be implemented in Osoppo (Friuli Venezia Giulia) and Verona (Veneto), aims to enhance the environmental performance of the two steel plants, which specialize in producing rebar, wire rod, welded mesh, and lattice girders.

At the Osoppo plant, the Agreement provides for installing a system to ensure greater efficiency in transferring hot billets from the steel mill to the rolling mill and for soundproofing buildings to reduce acoustic impact. At the Verona plant, the projects include implementing closed and semi-closed water treatment systems to reduce water withdrawal, a new high-efficiency oxygen production plant, and soundproofing of industrial buildings.

Recognizing the strategic importance of this program for the region and the industry, the Ministry will support the investment with €20,783,218 in incentives.

The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which also recognized the positive impact of the Agreement on environmental protection, will grant €570,000 in incentives for the initiatives planned in Osoppo.
