Updated data and figures on stainless steel production and use
The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) recently published the annual edition of the popular statistical handbook “Stainless Steel in Figures” containing accurate and reliable data about the stainless steel industry.
Charts include the compound annual growth rate of world stainless melt shop production (5,85% in 2017), the regional shares of stainless steel production (China is now 53,6% compared to 12,9% in 2005) and the data by country in metric tonnes. The stainless melt shop production (ingot/slab equivalent) has grown in the EU (7,377 mt vs. 7,280 in 2016) and in the US (2,754 vs. 2,481), whereas it has shown a slight decrease in Asia.
The apparent stainless steel use increased in 2017 with respect to the previous year in China, but it has dropped slightly in the other regions.
