Wire rolling, an unexpected result

The one between the companies Promills, based in Udine (Italy), and Airoldi, headquartered in Civate (Lecco, Italy), is a winning collaboration.
The first one specializes in rolling cassettes for the wire and cable industry, and the second one in rolling, bending and forming of wire. Thanks to the use of a Promills rolling cassette - a suitably equipped PRO 8221 - it has been possible for Airoldi for achieve a square-section wire with sharp edges of 1,20 x 1,20 mm, a result which is impossible to obtain with a drawing die, that would leave deposits making it impossible to subsequently draw the wire.
The processed material is a C85 steel class DH with 2100 Newtons of resistance (rough!), with zinc-aluminum coating. The final destination of the wire is the manufacturing of springs and other small metal parts. The use of rolling with adjustable cassettes allows among other things very restricted tolerances (3 centimes on the two sizes).
"It is a success that is worth sharing with the technicians of the sector," said Pietro Minà of Promills, "We are available for those who wish to deepen the matter and evaluate the use of rolling cassettes in their business."   Visit Promills' online stand >>> Visit Airoldi's online stand >>>
