Peeling machines and auxiliary equipment

n

Peeling machines are used in the metalworking industry to remove material from the outer surface of bars or tubes. The process involves rotating cutting tools against the material. Benefits include improved surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and enhanced mechanical properties. EJP offers two advanced peeling machines: the PM Series and the HS Series.

PM Series - peeling machines
The PM Series features a patented rotary adjustment that ensures maximum stability, regardless of the machined diameter. Unlike traditional peeling machines, the PM peeling head incorporates an automatic compensation of the cutting tools wear, by means of a laser measuring system and a patented arrangement of the peeling head. This series ensures precision and high productivity.

HS Series - peeling machines
On the other hand, the HS Series has no automatic adjustment and requires manual operation for tool wear compensation. It is recommended for larger diameters or products with greater diameter tolerance.

Key features of EJP peeling machines
Here is a brief overview of the equipment composing the peeling machines:

- Feeding unit: driven by servo-motors, the four-roll feeding system ensures precise material synchronization. Hydraulic cylinders with servo valves provide powerful material holding. The control panel allows the optimum adjustment of hydraulic pressure, which is saved in the recipe control. Quick roll changes are facilitated by easy access and an optional hydraulic clamping of the rolls can be also proposed.

- Inlet guide: is a robust system for accurate material guiding. Longevity is guaranteed by the tool steel rolls, and their replacement is easy thanks to roller holders with guides. To accommodate diameter variations and out-of-roundness in the starting material, the inlet guide is equipped with disc spring units. Concentric adjustment can be done manually with a handwheel or by a servo motor.

- Peeling head with drive & adjustment: provides stability through the inner ring rotation. It is driven by a high-performance gearbox and a DC motor.
The peeling head adjustment is achieved through the rotation of the inner ring, ensuring stability. The mounted replaceable cutting inserts, the outer ring of the peeling head, and the machine housing form a rigid system preventing typical micro vibrations and resulting in an optimal concentricity on all four tool holders.

- Exit guide: due to the double material guide, the peeled material is guided through shell-shaped sliding shoes, made in brass bronze, right immediately after the peeling head. It is then held firmly in position by tool steel rolls before finally exiting the guide. The concentric adjustment of the outlet guide is smoothly carried out by a handwheel or a servo motor.

- Laser system: all EJP peeling machines are equipped with an advanced laser measuring system, providing a constant detection of the peeled diameters. In the PM peeling machines, an automatic mechanism compensates the natural tool wear, ensuring that the preset product tolerance is maintained until the inserts need replacement. Conversely, in HS peeling systems, the adjustment for tool wear compensation is handled manually.

- Pullout carriage and transport apparatus: hydraulic cylinders with servo valves and polished tool steel clamping jaws ensure damage-free material clamping. The carriage is driven by a servomotor for precise synchronization with the feeding unit. Hydraulic pressure settings can be easily configured from the control panel and stored in the recipe control system.
