Take-Ups

CALMEC has a wide range of take-ups to suit most requirements. From the smaller spoolers to the large roll through bridge type machines, CALMEC offers a great selection of styles.

Choosing which style is best for your application involves deciding what products are to be run on the unit, the size range of product, the line speed range, the floor space available, as well as budget.

Bridge Type Take-Ups
Bridge type units permit the main advantage of having a relatively clear floor around the reel, with the ability to roll a reel through the machine. All motions are electro-mechanical. For most take-ups the reel traverses and the product maintains a straight line. For high reel weights, these machines are best suited.

Maximum Reel Weight: 6000 - 40000 lb., depending on size machine
Drive Type: AC or DC motor with or without multi-speed gear reducer, depending on speed range

Fixed Arm Take-Ups
Fixed Arm machines have the reel pivot up off the floor, usually via hydraulics. The reel stays fixed as a take-up with a traversing guide assembly moving back and forth along with the product. These are more suitable for lighter reel weight applications.
Size (Maximum Reel) Range: 48"-108" diameter
Minimum Reel Range: 24"-48" diameter, depending on size machine
Speed Range: 10-1000 FPM depending on drive
Maximum Reel Weight: 4000 - 15000 lb. depending on size machine
Drive Type: AC or DC motor with or without multi-speed gear reducer, depending on speed range 

Fixed Frame Take-Ups
Fixed Frame Take-Ups are designed to accommodate a single relatively small size reel. There is no lifting of the reel except for the cone of the pintle raising the reel just off the floor.

Size Range: 24"-36" diameter
Maximum Reel Weight: 500 - 2000 lb. depending on size machine
Drive Type: AC or DC geared motor

Spooler Take-Ups
Spoolers are usually designed to accommodate a single small size reel. They are usually designed for higher speed winding of small sized products, where an accurate traverse is required to provide good winding. They are usually the most automated style of take-up, with servo controls for traversing.

Size Range: 12"-36" diameter
Speed Range: 100-1000 FPM
Maximum Reel Weight: 100 - 2000 lb. depending on size machine
Drive Type: AC or DC geared motor
