Wire drawing gets smart: keep track of over 40 parameters with Eurodraw

As proof of this, the company has recently launched a ground-breaking drawing line that allows to monitor over 40 parameters throughout the entire process.
In detail, the line features:
- one motorized payoff unit for spools up to ø400 mm. Maximum speed: 25 m/s. Unwinding tension configurable through the motor;
- one dancer arm with meter counter and pneumatic cylinder for unwinding tension adjustment;
- one instrumented soapbox and die holder;
- one pulling capstan with double water cooling circuit and double motor with differential gearbox;
- one dancer arm with meter counter and pneumatic cylinder for take-up tension adjustment;
- one spooler for ø400 mm spools. Maximum speed: 25 m/s.
The many sensors along the entire line allow comprehensive information to be displayed on the HMI (Human-Machine Interface). Moreover, data can be sent to a PC for a more in-depth analysis.
Let's take a closer look at each component:
Motorized payoff unit:
- current and torque measurement;
- wire tension measurement;
- speed measurement.
Dancer arm – payoff:
- air pressure measurement and calculation of the force applied on the dancer arm;
- meter counter;
- laser pre-drawing wire diameter measurement.
Soap box:
- lubricating oil heating system. Max. temperature: 300 °C;
- dry lubricant heating system with soap stirrer;
- adjustment rollers to fine-tune the wire feeding position;
- 3 temperature sensors in three different positions of the soap box;
- oil pump and recirculation tank;
- possibility to use lubricating grease;
- vertical and horizontal position electrical adjustment with linear encoder;
- internal pulley to adjust the wire-die alignment;
- thermal insulation.
Die holder:
- tangential and orthogonal load gauge for drawing force measurement;
- temperature sensor;
- water cooling system with tank and hydraulic pump;
- micrometric screws for position tweaking;
- post-drawing wire temperature infrared sensor;
- anti-vibration roller with outgoing wire pressure gauge.
Pulling capstan:
- two motors to apply the maximum possible drawing torque at any speed;
- double hot or cold water cooling circuit;
- water temperature sensors;
- infrared camera to measure temperature changes over the capstan’s surface;
- pneumatic press roller;
- motor torque data acquisition;
- current and speed display.
Dancer arm – spooler:
- air pressure measurement and calculation of the force applied on the dancer arm;
- meter counter;
- final wire diameter laser measurement;
- calculation of wire elongation by diameter measurement.
Spooler:
- wire tension, current, torque and speed measurement;
- traverse system torque measurement;
- traversing speed adjustment.
This innovative Eurodraw machine can also be used as a rewinding line by bypassing all the equipment between the payoff and the spooler.
