wire & Tube 2020 officially postponed!
The wire & Tube 2020 trade show, which was expected to gather in Düsseldorf under one roof more than 2,500 companies and 70,000 visitors from all over the world, has been postponed due to the (in)famous SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
While in January the concerns were limited "only" to the very large number of Chinese exhibitors (about 350) and the potential negative impact this might have on visits, after the virus outbreak in Italy, the most affected country in the old continent with over 1,000 cases and 29 deaths (as of 25 February), Italians started to feel weak in the knees. Considering Italy and China are respectively the second and third countries in terms of number of exhibitors, Messe Düsseldorf must have got reports from several parts and countries asking for cancelation or postponement.
After the outbreak of the epidemic in Germany, including the area of North Rhine-Westphalia (of which Düsseldorf is the capital city) the situation became, if possible, even more critical.
In the face of such a far-reaching global problem, the event organizers expressed their willingness to reassess the situation, following the recommendation of the crisis management team of the German government: on February 29, in an official communication Messe Düsseldorf GmbH stated that the fair, scheduled for the days from March 30 to April 3, will be postponed to a date to be defined. The company will promptly discuss alternative trade fair dates.
"This decision was not an easy one for all concerned," says Thomas Geisel, Lord Mayor of the City of Düsseldorf and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. "But the postponements at the present time are necessary for Messe Düsseldorf and its customers."
