Now & Then: history and evolution of a spring manufacturer
As we have seen in some of the latest episodes of Now & Then (dedicated to Trafileria Scerelli e Trafileria A. Mauri), the metal wire is an extremely versatile semi-finished product, with a very long history. Suitable to different kinds of processing based on the material it is made of, the metal wire lends itself to be transformed into a wide range of finished products.
Springs are only one of the many items that can be made starting from the wire, and springs and more broadly elastic components are going to be today’s focus. Such simple yet complex elements, springs can be employed in a huge variety of fields such as agriculture, automation, automotive, medical, oleodynamics, pneumatics and transmission industries.
Furthermore, as stated by Francesco Silvestri from ISB Srl, nowadays customers are not just looking for springs, they expect so much more than that: everything concerning the production process, from the quality of raw materials to the processing techniques is taken for granted. Manufacturing quality springs and blanked strips is indeed a necessary requirement but it is not in itself sufficient for achieving success as a company. You must provide your customers with a greater value that goes beyond the finished product.
Since 1954, when ISB was established, the principles guiding the Silvestri family have remained the same: professionalism, consultancy and a complete service. These three very principles still serve today as inspiration for the founder’s grandson Francesco, and his father Angelo. Over the course of its three generation lifespan, the company underwent several changes, on the one hand dictated by the technological evolution and on the other driven by an irrepressible desire to improve.
As outlined by their slogan: since 1954, many things have changed, yet “ISB’s passion for springs stays the same”.
